My daughter was riding a friends horse when the saddle slipped. When my daughter tried to straighten it out the horse spooked and did a buck. Since she was already a little unbalanced it was enough to unseat her entirely. It was all slow motion, but the fall was enough to give her a concussion and a sprained ankle.
We didn't know how hard she hit the road until later when we saw the imprint of it in her helmet. I don't want to think how much worse her injury would've been without the helmet on. There have been other times when riding in the woods among low branches that we've been glad for the helmets too.
